Lisa Riehl

She Dances With the Wind

I have always been Inspired by Nature. I love to simplify what I’m seeing and translate it into the feeling of being outside with nothing between me and nature, or the feeling of tranquility and vibrancy that is all around me. Nature’s beauty is all around us to see, touch and hear. It has a way of affecting our moods and it can help us to change our way of thinking for the better, from negative to positive. I believe that being exposed to Nature’s beauty can have a positive effect on our lives, in the way we look at things and the way we feel about ourselves. Perhaps my paintings can help bring this feeling of wonder and peace to others.

Each painting I create feels like a poem that is made visible. I can’t just give them boring names - they deserve so much more! So I title each painting with a phrase that, at least to me, evokes incredible meaning in my heart.

Lisa Riehl is a West Coast landscape artist living in Victoria, BC. She paints bold and impressionistic scenes of the beauty of Vancouver Island that surrounds her: ocean and beaches, forests and trees. Many of her paintings are inspired by her favourite destination – Tofino, BC.

Lisa’s passions of camping, surfing & beachcombing provide the inspiration for her many coastal paintings. She never goes anywhere without her trusty camera (usually her phone) and takes hundreds of photos while out in nature (way too many, really … her phone is jam-packed with images). She will never run out of inspiration for her paintings!

A passionate artist and creative mentor, Lisa believes in the joy of making art at any stage of life. With a love for rich textures and expressive colour, she paints primarily in oils and acrylics, capturing the beauty of landscapes, light, and movement. She also finds inspiration in the immediacy of watercolour sketch-booking, using it as a way to explore ideas, document everyday moments, and keep creativity flowing.

Lisa also loves the playful and unpredictable world of monoprinting, which adds another layer of experimentation and spontaneity to her creative practice. She thrives on artistic exploration, embracing the process over perfection and encouraging others to do the same. Through her teaching, she empowers people to reconnect with their creative selves, reminding them that “It’s Never Too Late to Create”!

She became an Associate member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (AFCA) in 2011 and has been in many juried shows, including FCA Shows (Both in Vancouver and Victoria), the Sidney Fine Arts Show and the Sooke Fine Arts Show. Lisa has also been invited to be a jury member for select art shows.

Her works can be found in the private and corporate settings of avid collectors across Canada, United States and overseas.
